Bolster Group bringing success to the sports field and the race track

Well done to Brian McCormack and Tramore Premier soccer club and both of whom Bolster Group are delighted to sponsor. Brian has just won the Irish super bike championships and the Tramore Premier soccer team are sitting pretty on top of their league at the moment. Well done lads.

Tramore’s McCormack is Irish Superbike champion

WATERFORD this week has a brand new Irish champion in its number as last Sunday Tramore’s Brian McCormack was crowned as the new Irish Superbike Champion, for the first time in his young career.

Indeed not only is that a wonderful achievement in its own right but it is even better when one considers that in the process Brian has become the first rider from the Republic of Ireland to lift this highly prestigious title since 2003 - when the winner was also a Waterford man - Hilton Hincks, who is know a sponsor and mentor of Brian’s.

The Irish National Superbike Championship is run over eight rounds with two races in each round. Points are awarded for where you finish in each race and at the end of the eight rounds the champion is crowned.

Brian has competed in this championship, as well as the British Superbikes Championship, for the last number of years, and it all started well for the young Tramore man when he won two of the early races and was sitting pretty on top of the championship table going into the third series of races in Mondello Park - when this tough sport came back to bite him.

Cullen speaks on need for new developments in Waterford

Waterford-based Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Martin Cullen, has called for the need for developments to go ahead in the wake of the problems regarding the sale of the North Quays site.

On developments in Waterford City Centre and county, Cullen said: "We certainly need to see some major developments commence in Waterford City and indeed, the immediate environs. We now really need to see the cranes appearing over the city and those developments to go ahead. There is a number of developments both within the city centre area and peripheral to the city that I believe are essential now to commence”.

The Minister, who was in the city on Monday to attend the IVAX TEVA job creation announcement as well as the public seminar on the future of pension provision gave his views on the proposed development in Tramore that has attracted much controversy in recent weeks.

On the issue, Cullen stated: "With regard to the issue in Tramore, it looks like a fabulous investment. A Jack Nicklaus golf course. I believe. It would be a huge addition, tourism-wise, to Waterford and to the South East. I hope whatever issues are outstanding can be resolved and that development can proceed”.

The other major outstanding development is the KRM 'Newgate Centre' bid which is due to be decided by An Bord Pleanala after six separate appeals.

On the North Quays controversy, Cullen said: "That issue has been resolved. I find it very unfortunate in that it didn't have to go on as long as it did…The pathway is now clear. I think all the legal issues have been resolved. There are two developers already involved in the purchasing of the North Quays and they want to proceed. I'm delighted about that”.

William Bolster will meet all concerned residents to explain Islandikane resort project

Tramore businessman William Bolster, one of the principals of Islandikane Developments which is seeking planning permission for a €150 million, five-star resort on a 220-acre County Waterford coastal site between Garrarus and Kilfarrasy, has undertaken to meet all concerned residents who have expressed reservations about the project .

Mr Bolster, who lives in the area and whose family has run a successful business providing significant employment for more than 40 years, says the resort, which is aimed mainly at the family market and features a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, will be a major tourism asset to the area and will provide an important economic boost and support inward tourism to the area..

"We have had direct discussions with the local residents and we will continue to talk to them," says Mr Bolster. "These people are our neighbours and we will do our best to give them all the information they need to make up their own minds about what we are proposing to do. If it is possible, we will provide written confirmation of what we are saying to them, if that is what they require.

"I believe that most people are convinced that we are doing everything possible to alleviate their concerns about what will happen during construction and when the resort is up and running. We are addressing concerns expressed to us about traffic management by way of signage and traffic-calming and traffic impact to the area.

"In relation to questions raised about the environment, we have assembled a substantial team of experts from Bord na Mona who have many years of experience in this area and they have been given a free hand to examine all aspects of this project and to make whatever recommendations they feel are appropriate. While we are paying for this expertise, there is no way that these professionals would compromise their reputations by providing an Environmental Impact Statement which was not in accordance with the highest standards and practice.
